Hughleys Child Star Charged with Murder

Former child star of the Hughleys DeeJay Daniels (real name Dorjan Lyndell Daniels) was recently arrested in California for marijuana possession, premeditated murder and gang activity charges in connection with a fatal stabbing. Daniels played little Michael Hughley on the ABC and UPN television show The Hughleys.  The 23-year-old was taken into custody along with two others for allegedly stabbing to death 26-year-old John Joseph outside the Chivitas nightclub in Stockton, California, in August.

Daniels has undergone a total transformation since his television days. He now has visible face tattoos (one of a kiss and one that appears to be gang-related) and a menacing scowl, as seen in his mugshot. Apparently the funds accrued during his stint as an actor have run out.            

The defense will seek to dismiss the case on Friday. If the case is not dismissed the three alleged accomplices will face charges of street terrorism, premeditated murder, and premeditated attempted murder. If convicted, Daniels could face a life sentence. 

In addition to The Hughleys, which ran from 1998 to 2002, Daniels also had a few small roles in “Coach,” “ER,” “The Wayans Bros,” “Family Matters,” and the Disney movie “Sky High.”

His last known role was a “Cold Case” episode which he starred in as a teenager.  He is currently being held without bail.
